Introduction

The town of Roxton is rife with the rumour and innuendo surrounding a new addition to Santa Torina’s high society. Lord Augustus Fortescue, a new money rancher, has arrived in town with his exuberant English wife – the Lady Isobella Fortescue. Though the title was created for Lord Augustus following his financial intervention and undisclosed services to the British Monarchy, a bona fide peer of the realm making Roxton their home is invariably the talk of the town.

Don Diego LaGrand is no stranger to money or intrigue. He resides with his family, and a contingency of associates, in the villa he built on the outskirts of Roxton. Though the Don is accepted by the same prominent members of society who are now observing the Fortescues’ every move, he keeps his business closely guarded. Maria, the Don’s daughter, represents the LaGrand family at functions and events. Those seeking an audience with the Don often find the forthright Maria LaGrand barring their way.

Roxton has a population of nearly 800. Though the town is financially thriving and a generally cosmopolitan place, one thing it’s diverse population has in common is the desire to remain connected to the ways of the Old West. Local law is still administered by a Sheriff. Federal law departments from the State of Santa Torina rarely find themselves involved with Roxton. The Mayor is also able to operate fairly autonomously. He takes a particular interest in overseeing decisions affecting the flow of money in and out of his town.

The most recent rumour concerning the Fortescues is around a meeting which took place at the Fortescue mansion between Lord Fortescue, Don Diego, and the Mayor. Following this meeting, Lord Fortescue hasn’t been seen for days.
