A GM’s Resource by Bart Wynants
The black swan’s disapproving glare bores into the top of your skull as you place the chisel against the crypt’s seal. Perched atop the moss-covered roof of the mausoleum, the rampant effigy stands stark and black against the scarlet backdrop of the setting sun whose fading red rays spur your hammer to strike. Sparks fly as steel meets steel, and a shrill death knell rings out across the lonely cemetery, startling the vast colonies of bats nesting in the dilapidated vaults. Like columns of dark smoke, they rise from a thousand charnel chimneys. Steeling yourself, you strike another blow, much harder and louder than the first. As the seal shatters, the fluttering black cloud blots out the fading sun, and you begin clawing frantically at the thick strands of ivy blocking the entrance. Overhead, the shrieking dark continues to gather. Throwing your weight against the groaning stones again and again, you force the doors to yield. A sibilant sigh, laden with the dust of ages, issues from the gaping entrance to the mausoleum, beckoning you into the benighted bower of the Aninas Family Crypt.

About Dungeon Backdrops
You are a GM, but you are busy. You want to write your own modules, but you just don’t have the time. And you don’t want to use commercial modules. You want to make your campaign your own. That’s where the Dungeon Backdrop line comes in! Each Dungeon Backdrop presents a fully fleshed out and lovingly detailed self-contained dungeon ready for you to use as you see fit. Stock the dungeon with your own monsters (and—perhaps—their treasure), decide their back story and you are good to go.
Every Dungeon Backdrop is carefully designed to be easily inserted into almost any fantasy campaign. Dungeon Backdrops: we describe the dungeon, you add the monsters (and the treasure).
