The boneblade serpent is one of the lesser nightmares, but no less dangerous to regular people. Its appearance is exceptionally weird, barely recognizable as a serpent, and seems to have got its name more from the fact that it looks more like a serpent than anything else. It has a green, vaguely humanoid upper body, with two arms and a single humanoid head, though the head has only a single, cyclopean eye and a gaping mouth with fangs. It trails off into a serpentine body, though the very lowest reaches of this body have suckers like an octopus’ arm. Some kind of pink tendril grows from the creature’s chin, trailing down the front of its body, C2A0and it has several thin, purple, wing-like membranes that grow off from this tendril and wrap around the serpent’s body. Its hands are not human shaped, having far fewer fingers, and they are always seen carrying two blades made out of graying bone.
These nightmares are far less organized or coordinated without guidance from greater nightmares, simply gathering into groups and rushing the nearest non-nightmare sapient creature they can find to try and cut it to pieces. This complete lack of tactical thinking means that on their own they often get killed by creatures far beyond their ability to handle, but their numbers are enough that they can still pose an incredible threat, especially if they find vulnerable targets. When marshalled under a more powerful and intelligent nightmare however, boneblade serpents can be a terrible force. In battle, they fall into a frenzy quickly, fighting to the death and lashing out to cut up creatures as they fall, trying to ensure death before they go themselves.
