Hive Pincer Hive Pincer These creatures are footsoldiers for hiveling swarms. Masses of hive pincers swarm from dreams, never manifesting in groups smaller than three and sticking close together to overwhelm enemies of the hive. Their lives are thrown aside en mass in defense of other hiveling dreams, but they seem to care little for other dreams and may even try to exterminate them if they seem to be a threat. If other hivelings don’t appear to be in danger the hive pincers become much more docile, but they have a tendency to overreact to innocuous actions they interpret as a danger.
In both 5e and 13th Age these creatures are purely designed as group glass canons. There is no purpose in sending a single hive pincer against a party, unless they’re clever enough to separate it from its companions. A single hive pincer’s health and damage are both too low to be a threat to level 3 characters. Their role is as group foes against higher level parties, and their stats are absurdly lopsided around that. They’ll die exceptionally easily, but their damage output can be quite rough if they team up against a target.
Outside of Dreamblade the hive pincer is most likely a monstrosity. They may still be teamed up with some of the other hiveling creatures, such as the chrysalis spinner or the hive queen (coming soon), as simple workers and guards. Originally from the Dreamblade base set.

The hive pincer has advantage on melee attack rolls and deals an extra 7 (2d6) damage against a creature if at least one of the pincer’s allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn’t incapacitated. Actions Multiattack. The hive pincer makes two Pincer attacks. If both hit the same target, the target is also grabbed (escape DC 12). Pincer. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8+4) slashing damage.
13th Age
Hive Pincer 5th level mook [aberration] Initiative: +9 Shredding Pincers +12 vs. AC – 7 damage. Swarm Attack: The hive pincer gains a +2 bonus to damage for each other hive pincer engaged with the target (max +4 bonus). AC 20 PD 19 MD 15 HP 14 (mook) Mook: Kill one hive pincer mook for every 14 damage you deal to the mob.
