Level Up – starting characters at higher levels

When starting a character for a new adventure, players create a back-story to give their characters a life before adventuring. But what happens when players start their characters at a higher level? What did they do from level 1 to gain enough experience that they are now at this higher level?

The tables within this document are intended to give a brief synopsis of a small adventure arc that would explain how they progressed from level to level. Each level up is a new roll on the tables (unless you feel that the one hook is enough to carry for several levels).

The outcome of each level up adventure is determined by the player making a DC14 saving throw with a random stat and the result gives details of how the adventure ended. (This does not impact their actual level, but may be used in the forthcoming adventure by the GM.)
